Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation & Serum | Review

kat von d lock foundation review
I have been a big fan of Kat Von D for a fair few number of years now, even well before she had a makeup line back when she was on LA Ink. When her makeup line came out in America I was thrilled and was sooo tempted to try the makeup but they did not deliver to the UK at that time which was a little disappointing but I always held hope that it would eventually land in the UK and thankfully it did when Debenhams announced they were going to stock Kat Von D!

Kat Von D Beauty is Cruelty Free with plenty of vegan options, more info on Peta here 🐇

When they made a Kat Von D counter in Debenhams in Glasgow, I just couldn't wait to see the makeup counter! The counter itself was very easy to find as it is designed beautifully with a gothic twist with lots of mirrors and counters showing a variety of different makeup they have to offer from lipsticks to makeup brushes.
kat von d foundation and primer review
Packaging
Beautiful. It is just perfectly designed and I think it compliments Kat Von D as its designed with tattoo design writing on the box and also on the bottles of the primer and the foundation too. The box is very thick so if you decided to keep the box "like myself" then it would last a long time if taken care off. The bottles also feature an airless chamber which prevents contamination and keeps the foundation fresh. I love how the bottles look like glass and the pumps are covered with mini covers which look like royal seals.  The seals on the bottles can be taken off simply and put back on again after each use.

Texture
The Hydrating Primer
The primer is milky white in colour and it comes out of the bottle with a pump action. The primer itself is very light as its water based meaning its very easy to apply onto the skin. It has a nice feel to it and it has a silky matte finish.

The Foundation
This was much thicker in texture than the primer but it came out the same was as the primer, it comes out with a pump action and even though it is thicker it still has a silky feel to it.

Application
The Hydrating Primer
I used 2 pumps which gave me about a peas size amount each time and I applied it to my skin with my fingers and massaged into my skin like I do with my usual facial moisturisers. Once applied to the skin it took only a few minutes for it to dry ready for the foundation. The primer which is water based has high-tech polymers which minimise pores and give the skin a smoother finish for the foundation.

The Foundation
I am always a bit hesitant using my premium products as I don't like using them too much because of the price so I was hoping application with this foundation would be ok and thankfully I only needed 2 pumps of the foundation to give my face a full coverage finish. I applied the foundation with my trusty and most favourite makeup sponge ((Real Techniques miracle complexion sponge)) which help put this foundation on effortlessly. I love the way this foundation makes my skin look dewy with a subtle glow, wish I bought this foundation so much sooner!

Scent
The Hydrating Primer
This has a delicate scent which I can't put my finger on what it is is but it does smell lovely and is not over powering, its delicate and matches perfectly with the foundation.

The foundation
Thankfully this had no scent at all. I am not a fan on foundations with too much of a scent.

Do they last though?
I can honestly say that the combination really impressed me so much! I went to wedding last month and the wedding was a whole day event and my makeup stayed in place.... even with me dancing and the weather being very hot. I took it off when I got home after the wedding and I can honestly say it looked pretty much the same as it did when I left earlier that day. I was kinda reluctant to take it off because my makeup was still slaying but you know skincare is very important so I had to take it off "boo".
Kat Von D Foundation and Primer swatches

Pros

  • Medium to heavy coverage : For me personally I like a heavier foundation and find this one the best one I have tried so far.
  • Easy to apply: Even though this is a heavier foundation it applied like cream and blended pretty quickly, which is fab!
  • Dewy, Matte finish: I just love the finish, it makes my complexion look smooth and a nice glow to it too.
  • Sublime packaging: I am one of those people who just love the packaging on products just as much as the products and these ones win hands down.
  • Long lasting: The combination of the primer and the foundation is just perfect, they defiantly compliment each other to help the foundation last all day.
  • Primer works well with foundation and on its own: Even on no makeup days this primer feels amazing on the skin, it smoothes my skin and feels lovely.

Cons

  • Can feel heavy: On a normal day it feels fine but on those warmer days it can feel a little heavy but nothing too much just something I thought I should mention.
  • Expensive: I know they aren't the most expensive on the market but for me I will be using them for special occasions and weekends haha.

Too Faced Selfie Powders | Review

Wait a moment..
let me take a selfie 👀

Hi Lovelies
Too Faced has been on my makeup wish list for along time now and you should of seen my face when I finally found this palette in TK Maxx!!! I have been going to TK Maxx on and off for a few years now and honestly finding anything that I want can be a bit of a task as the brands I want aren't there or worse it is there and its been opened and tested and smudged! ugh it can be a nightmare.

Too Faced makeup is a beauty brand I have always wanted to try but something always got in the way, the main reason was finding it as I rather see stuff in person before I buy it. Another being it can be very pricy and I was waiting for a bargain like this.
...
First Impressions
It was easy to spot when I was in TK Maxx, it was looking at me and saying "buy me please" and for £10 I thought it would be worth a try.
I can see they have been a lot of detail and thought put into the box as it looks lovely and it has all the info you need about the product inside too.
The palette itself is very nice and has 3 shades of selfie powders with a mirror and info underneath it with all the details about each different selfie powder.

What are selfie powders?
I was wondering this myself until I actually read the box and I read these are filters in the real world rather than the filters that you can get in Instagram or snapchat for example. In the palette they have 3 shades and each gives a different effect.

Shades
Sunrise - This is a golden shade which is to 'brighten'

Totally Toasted - This is like a bronzer and is described as to add 'warmth'

Moon River - This looks like a lavender shade is described as 'cool'

...
How I use it
Now I am not sure if these are much difference between these and any other highlighter I have tried to be honest. They are used pretty much the same as a highlighter and I like to use them either on my cheek bones or on my nose or both.

Final Thoughts
Even though this is beautifully packaged and the shades are gorgeous it is not the most pigmented highlighter I have tried and takes quite a lot of product to get a highlight I am used to. Even though it is not the most pigmented once built up it looks gorgeous  and my favourite out of the 3 shades is moon river as I love the purple shimmer it has.

I am happy that I found this in TK Maxx as it is a product I use quite often even though its not quite as expected. The main thing is its easy build to get a more defined look as the powders feel silky on the skin and also they are long lasting. I am sold by this brand and I cant wait to try makeup from this brand, I have lot of their products on my wishlist.

Have you tried anything from Too Faced?

dr botanicals moroccan rose
With all the skincare products out there it can be a little bit of a task to find products that  are 100% natural with added benefits such as nourishing the skin and also to have a nice scent too. I have recently being trying this body cream from Dr Botanicals.

Dr Botanicals is a natural skincare company that are made in the UK and sell lots of different skincare products including oils, moisturisers and much more. Dr Botanicals are 100% organic and are cruelty free and the products are also vegan  friendly too. The prices are premium but the products are natural and are sourced by plants and are completely paraben free and harmful preservative free, so the prices are justified and I also have a discount code for you all to get a massive discount to treat yourself.

dr botanicals Moroccan rose review
First Impressions
This moroccan rose & shea butter body repairing cream honestly one of the most DIVINE smells I have ever smelled from a skincare product. The rose scent is so natural that the cream actually smells like rose petals and with the combination of the shea butter it's so creamy! When I applied this to my skin it sunk into my skin like a dream and absorbs within a few seconds without feeling greasy. I have tried this cream a few times and the scent is so lovely and strong that it could be also doubled over as a perfume as the fragrance is so beautiful and delicate.

Packaging
The cream is in a MASSIVE 100ml jar so I can see myself having this last me a good 6-8 months before I use this all up and thats just brilliant, you get so much product for your money. The jar is a screw top and the jar is made out of a strong and very well made glass.  The cream also comes in a box with all the info you need about the product and also the ingredients list too.

Ingredients and Benefits of this cream
  • Rose oil is rich in omega 3 and 6 which help to hydrate the skin which helps make the skin softer
  • Shea butter has high levels of Vitamins A, F and E which helps protect, soothe and rejuvenate the skin.
  • Apricot kernel oil is an amazing source of essential fatty acids and vitamins A & E. Both of which deeply moisturise skin and also help keep it nourished.

My thoughts
I love this body cream, it smells gorgeous and the days I actually wear this I don't put any perfume on because this smells that beautiful I don't feel the need to actually put on a perfume too.

The cream is so lightweight that its perfect if your in a rush which I am most of the time as I like to do so many things on a schedule. After it has been put on the skin and rubbed throughly in thats pretty much it, it dries leaving skin feeling soft and nourished without feeling greasy.

Even though this is an expensive product I would 100% say its worth it and with the discount code it is a specular bargain and I think I might just get another one to treat myself.

RRP price is £99 currently on the site for special price of £19.99

Dr Botanicals | First Impressions

Dr Botanicals first impressions
Hi Lovelies
With Christmas around the corner, skincare can be the last things on our minds, I know it can with me because all I am thinking about is last minute Christmas presents and also the preparation for Christmas too, it can all get a bit hectic. For me personally I like to have a little skincare regime; one for the morning and also one for last thing at night, that way it helps keep my skin soft and hydrated during the autumn and winter months more easily.

Dr Botanicals is a premium brand I recently discovered online and it is a brand that was founded in London and sells lots of products such as; Serums, Moisturisers and Cleansers. They are a beauty company with a difference who make 100% natural skincare products out of the science of plants. The brand is also cruelty free and contain no harmful preservatives.

Japanese Orange Superfood Facial Oil
I just love using facial oils and serums and honestly using this one was heavenly for so many reasons! First reason is the smell is just divine, as soon as you can smell fresh oranges and honestly its just so refreshing once it goes onto your skin. It has a little top that you squeeze onto skin that just gives you drops at a time, so you can't get too much of this by accident just the right amount. I use about 4 or 5 drops with this to cover my face and neck just before I put a moisturiser on or my makeup

This oil is recommend for people with dry, damaged skin or just for wanting to pamper themselves, because at the end of the day we all deserved to be pampered. My skin is combination skin and this has worked perfectly for me. This oil has key ingredients of this are Rose Otto Oil which contains high levels of vitamin A and C. It also has Neroli oil and also Seabuckthorn fruit oil which is high in vitamins A, C and E also essential fatty acids.

Japanese Orange Vitamin C Repairing Night Moisturiser
Night creams can be so heavenly and this one is for sure. This cream is very thick and creamy, it applies to skin effortlessly and was non greasy too. As with the facial oil this smelled like zesty oranges too and was equally as refreshing. I put around 2 almond size amounts on my face for complete face and neck coverage. I put this moisturiser on just before I go to bed, it is a bit thicker than a day time moisturiser but it helps with skin hydration for the following morning.

This moisturiser is recommend for people with dry sensitive skin and you will guess what I am going to say next... if you want a pamper just go for it. The key ingredients in this are seabuckhorn fruit oil which helps promote skin hydration and calm sensitive skin. Another is coconut oil which help dry and sensitive skin and also  tiare flower which helps with hydration

Pros
  • 100% Natural Ingredients
  • Parben and harmful preservative free
  • Hydration
  • Works well on my combination skin, especially the dry patches

Cons
  • None
