Dressing my curves with confidence

Hi Lovelies, Hope you are all well?
I LOVE MY body, yes you read that correctly I love the way I look ( I am not trying to sound vain 😜). I am plus size/curvy and for me the image perfect is in your eyes only not in what the media or what others say. I have heard so much CRAP about getting your perfect beach body in time for summer... I mean really what is a perfect summer body? I am a size 16 and for me I am so ready for the summer no matter the size of my clothes or the weight on the scales.
Over the last 2-3 years I have gained quite a bit of weight but with a lot of hard work and exercise I have kept my weight the same for nearly a year now "yay!!!"(happy dance...) I still enjoy my food but tend to exercise a lot more now and also drink lots of water too. For me, personally, diets don't work because I get very easily bored of them and I don't like having a  set routine of what to eat if you know what I mean. Eating good things in moderation is the way to go

I have always loved to wear pretty dresses especially if they are in the rockabilly style because I am a retro girl at heart but with the weight gain I haven't been 100% confident to wear dresses for a long time because of the way my body has changed with PCOS. I wore joggers/leggings all the time because they were so comfy and to be honest I just love wearing them but back to then thats all I wore at one point until one day I went out of my comfort zone  and I ordered some dresses on Lindy Bop because the retro girl at heart was calling out to me to give the dresses a try.
Over the least few months I have got myself some lovely dresses and skirts and I actually shocked myself how lovely they looked,  including this dress from Lindy bop which fits me perfectly and also looks amazing. I have worn dresses outside so many times too and I love to get dressed up every now and again as its one of those things that help give me a confidence boost. I still love to wear leggings and joggers too from time to time because you know they are so darn comfy and they kinda feel like a hug.

Getting these retro dresses has been a great for me and has given me the confidence to go out and wear what makeup and clothes I want because you know something everyone... if it makes you happy than thats all that matters! I will continue looking amazing in my retro vixen clothes because they make me feel good.
I know dresses aren't everyones cup of tea but I love them and I think we should all wear what we all find comfortable even if that means not everyone agreeing with you because no matter what,  people like to complain about little things and the way we want to dress is one of them. So from now on I am going to dress how I want and feel most comfortable with and in the end isn't that all that matters?

Life with PCOS

Hi Lovelies
This time last year I can honestly say I felt like utter SHITE and the reasons for that being were I was putting on so much weight, my clothes weren't fitting and my periods were haywire and to top everything off my hair was coming out far too much that it had me to the edge of tears.

Not knowing what was wrong with me was horrible to say the least but I decided enough was enough and I went to the doctors and the first thing they said was I pregnant and I knew I wasn't as I had already took many tests. They took a blood test and they said the hormone levels were a  little high and they wanted me to wait until I was next on my period to test again.

Waiting for another period was awful because I had no idea when the next one was going to be. The next period I had wait 6 weeks after the first appointment and then I got tested again. I waited 3 weeks before I got my results which said my hormones were still high and that I had PCOS.

Reality set it.
I know its nothing to celebrate but I was so glad that I was diagnosed because I just knew MY BODY and I knew I didn't feel right. It has been nearly 5 months since I found out and I can say I have accepted that I have PCOS and unfortunately there is no cure and only remedies to help reduce symptoms.

My Symptoms
Thankfully I have managed to reduce my symptoms by eating better and exercising more, I may not of lost any weight yet but the main thing is that I haven't gained any. As for my hair loss its still here and their but I am sure it's not as much as it was before. I just try and avoid washing it as much and only dye with natural or semi permanent dyes.

Another thing I have got back on track from last year is my periods, last year they were all over the place usually between every 2-3 months and honestly it was so uncomfortable and it felt like my period was supposed to be starting well before that but no I felt hormonal from the day it was due till the day it started which could of been weeks. Now for the past 5 months *fingers crossed* I have had a monthly period (every 30 days) and I feel so much better for it too, I am hoping it stays that way and I am going to try my darn hardest for that to happen.

Things to change
Now I know I have changed a lot with what I am eating but I still have a few changes I need to do. At the moment I have stopped using white bread and swapped it for wholemeal, the same going with pasta and  stuff like that. But the thing I need to change is cutting down the carbs a little bit and also how much sugar I am eating too ( I am partial to a biscuit or two)

I know I have mentioned it a lot but its quite a main thing with PCOS, anyway with them I can honestly say they are PAINFUL and wow I mean painful! And not only are they painful they can be very heavy from started to finish and I know I can't change that very much but I like to keep a hot water bottle handy and my chocolate bars stocked up.

Coping with negative attitudes
Since my diagnoses of PCOS I have told a few people about it and honestly reactions can differ from person to person but sometimes people think I over exaggerate  my symptoms because seeing as they are invisible to the naked eye its harder for some to except.

  • Weight - I am a size 16-18 and honestly it's not 100% down to what I eat because I haven't changed my diet much for the past 10 years and not so long ago I was between a size 8-10. I have put 4 stone on over the course of over 2 years and the gains were a lot some months. I wish people would mind their own business about my weight or anybody else's for that matter because seriously it has nothing to do with them and it's not nice calling people names just because of a persons size. I am very healthy and I love to exercise, if you have nothing nice to say please don't say it because I am getting tired of the negative talk about my weight because I feel positive with my body no matter what the scales or my clothes size say and to me thats all that matters.

Sorry if this post was a little long winded but I really wanted to get this all off my chest because PCOS can suck but writing about it has actually made me feel so much better. I will be writing more about PCOS in the future

My Goals For 2017

Hi Lovelies
Honestly I can't be the only one who thinks that 2016 was really fast! One minute it was new year, the next the summer holidays and now it is nearly  the blooming new year AGAIN. I can't say 2016 has been my all time favourite year because they have been  a fair few hiccups in it but apart from that its been fine. I can't say I did particularly well with last years goals because I unmotivated myself because of some of the hiccups that happened during the year and not only that I recently discovered I have PCOS, so yes an eventful year but hopefully it will lead onto a brilliant and easier 2017.

My Goals
  1. Control my PCOS: This year has been a bit all over the place because of my hormones and some days have been rubbish with it but I am planning on controlling it better with eating better and also with a bit of luck and motivation loose some weight too ( I have put on 4 stone in 2 years)
  2. Loose weight: This is following on from the above. I am hoping to keep myself motivated to get myself fitter and stronger for 2017 and honestly motivation is the biggest key for me so hopefully I will find it and keep it always.
  3. Read more books: This year I have read a few books including Harry potter and the philosophers stone, Jackie Collins Thrill and I've also started to read game of thrones and the next harry potter book, I would like to continue reading books because it is so relaxing.
  4. Complete Veganuary and stay vegan: I have been vegan before for around 8 months back in 2014 and since then I have mostly eaten vegan foods but sometimes I have eaten vegetarian foods too. Motivation again is key and also finding places that sell vegan foods and also trying more vegan recipes

Blog Relatad Goals
  1. Schedule more: At the moment my blog posts are mostly posted at random times, I really only post when I have a spare couple of hours. I hope to get more posts done and make sure they are shared on all my social media to help grow my blog more
  2. Get 500 youtube subscribers: I have 101 at the moment which I am very happy with but hopefully this time next year I get to my goal of 500. Its kinda a thing to show that my youtube is worth doing.
  3. Have 3000 Instagram followers: At one stage I honestly thought I wouldn't get past 1000 followers but now I have well over 2,500! I think I have pretty well and to be honest I just love my Instagram feed, I love sharing on it.
  4. Keep going: I have been blogging for nearly 3 years now and I love it as much now as I did then. I will continue to do it because I just love it.

I am sure I will be adding more goals thought out of 2017 but these are the ones I can think of right now, so keep a look out in future.

PandaVita Baobab Powder | Review

pandavita baobab powder review
Hi Lovelies
For me personally this year I have struggled on eating properly and to be honest my body felt so blooming rubbish because of PCOS. I've been making small changes here and there to help me loose weight and not just that but to be healthier and stronger too. At the moment I mostly only eat wholewheat pasta/bread and also tried to include more fruits and vegatables.

I was kindly sent this baobab powder a month ago to try and to be honest with you all I have never tried a product like this before. Baobab is a superfood fruit that is grown in upper east Ghana. The fruit contains six times more Vitamin C than oranges and more potassium than bananas. This fruit also has twice amount of calcium than milk and also has fibre, so I can see why its got its superfood label from!

Honestly this Baobab powder is so darn versatile! It can be drank with water, made into a smoothie or even put into a healthy recipes such as a flapjack or protein balls. I am looking forward to making recipes with this in the future so keep a look out for that in future.

About the Baobob Powder
  • Vegan/Vegetarian
  • Organic
  • Gluten Free
  • Kosher
  • Halal

My thoughts on it
I loved this powder because you could barely taste it in a strawberry, banana and almond milk smoothie! I love the fact it had give me more benefits than just the two fruits from only one teaspoon on the baobab powder. I personally was not keen on the baobab powder on its own as its quite a strong taste but its a great way to get natural energy.

After trying it for a week I did feel my energy levels get better and I've been more fitness motivated as late. I look forward to keep having this in my fitness journey.

PCOS | My Story

Hi Lovelies
As some of you may remember I had a little bit of a problem with my hormones and I needed a few blood tests to work out what was wrong with me, well it turns out I finally know why my hormones are all over the place and also a reason I have put on so much weight gain over the past two years        (approx 4 stones 👀) I got a phone call off my doctor telling me my results of my blood test and she told me I have PCOS. I must admit I thought it might have been that to begin with but it was still a bit  of shock to actually found out I actually had it myself.

Now I know everyone who has PCOS is different and symptoms vary for person to person.
I knew something wasn't right with my irregular periods, weight gain and hair loss. The irregular periods they started pretty much after I took out my implant birth control because I thought my body didn't agree with it, after months of waiting for my period to return to normal they never did and my  periods came between 45-55 days which for me was a bit scary and I must admit I took a handful of pregnancy tests all of which were negative.

The weight gain was a big shock because I have usually always been a size 8 in my late teens/early twenties and as soon as I turned 23-24 the weight kept creeping on quite quickly. I am between size 16-18 now and as much as I love being curvy its quite a bit of weight to have added in a short space of time.

Now the hair loss was another worrying factor for me because all I have to do is put my hands through my hair and lots of my hair comes out in my hands or I could be in the shower and my hair blocks the plug hole, so you can imagine its quite a lot at times.

Now I know its different for everyone but Il put a list on things that were and are the signs of my PCOS.  They may be more but I am not 100% on them so I will add them to future posts once I know 100%, so keep an eye for them.

My PCOS Symptoms

  • Irregular periods: Not only are they irregular but once it finally decides to appear my period can be very heavy and only last about 4 days, those days are 3 heavy and 1 light. I usually get them between every 45-55 days at the moment.
  • Weight Gain: Now this is a one I am struggling to manage at the moment and I know I have to make some changes to make sure I am healthier, it has defiantly been a challenge though so far this year.
  • Thinning Hair: With my hair being very thick it isn't noticeable but I notice and its something that can be shocking sometimes especially when I brush my hair.
  • Unwanted Hair: This one isn't major for me but it is defiantly their. I have a little bit more hair on my upper lip are and also on my chin.
*Everyone is different with PCOS, these are my main symtoms only*

Things I am going to do to improve symptoms
  • Improve My Diet
  • Keep a food diary
  • Exercise More
  • Be positive about it

This is the first of a series of posts I will be doing about PCOS, I know its not everyones cup of tea but its posts I want to do and I want to document my journey.

*I am not a doctor and these are things I have had and everyone is different, if you have any queries always ask your GP*
